Kushxeet is a Lingít name which translates to "Raven the Artist." I strive every day to live up to this name.

The art I make has been essential in reconnecting to my culture, finding my identity, and building community - by creating art that resonates with others.

Graphic Art

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. I've always been inspired by nature, strong feminine energy, and funky, bright color palettes.

Digital Art

In 2020 I got an iPad that changed my life (shoutout Sitka Tribe)! During the COVID-19 pandemic I began drawing on Procreate and sharing my work to Instagram. Eventually these original drawings were brought into the real world as stickers and prints.

Thanks to visibility gained through social media, my digital art has been featured in magazines, museums, and science communications.

Beads

I was first taught how to bead in the basement of a university building by my peers in the Native American Student Union. I haven't stopped since. I strive to create inclusive, contemporary Indigenous art for all. I use a combination of new, repurposed, and natural materials in my adornments. You can sometimes find me at local artist markets!

Woven Materials

My first experience weaving was fresh out of high school in Kake, Alaska. I was on a work trip visiting young research assistants on a PhD project about shellfish. I ended up getting the flu and being taught the basics of cedar weaving by my host. I've been lucky enough to continue my education through workshops and UAS courses. In 2026 I completed my first cedar hat, and gifted it to my brother before his canoe journey.

Wood Carving

Carving is one of my newest and most exciting creative endeavors. I first got my hands on a bent knife in early 2024 when I enrolled in a shakee.át frontlet carving class at UAS. I have since repeated the class three times, carving a halibut hook and float, a model canoe, and a bentwood box. I've also taken a spoon carving workshop, and assisted a week-long carving camp for youth.
